How to Start The Legend of Beowulf

To begin this quest, you’ll need to have reached England and established Ravensthorpe. The quest can then be activated by reading the letter from Sunniva in the letter box in Eivor’s room. The letter will tell you of an Abess in East Anglia named Wulfhilda who needs your help dealing with a fearsome monster.

Find Wulfhilda

You’ll find Wulfhilda in a small settlement south of Brisleah Farm in East Anglia. When you approach the crowd in the settlement, some of the Anglo-Saxons will become hostile and blame you for their slaughtered cattle. You’ll then need to fist fight three of the villagers, which shouldn’t be too difficult as they are relatively weak.

Wulfhilda is located south of Brisleah Farm (left), but you’ll need to fight some hostile villagers before you can talk to her! (right)

When you successfully beat down the three Anglo-Saxons, you’ll need to speak to Wulfhilda, who will tell you of the slaughtered cattle in the settlement. You’ll need to figure out what is killing the livestock by investigating various things in the settlement.

Investigate the Scene

First up, you’ll want to investigate the dead cows near the barn. If you speak to the woman near the dead cows, she’ll tell you it was the Danes who slaughtered the livestock. Use your Odin’s sight to examine the cow near the gate and you’ll discover that the beast is covered in strange bite marks and mould, which doesn’t seem befitting of a Dane attack.

You’ll need to examine the dead cows (left), to figure out what kind of monster dealt such brute force. (right)

Next, you’ll want to examine the dead cow on top of the barn. The beast that slew the cows was incredibly strong and able to fling a cow onto the roof! To the right of the barn, you’ll find some children, and if you speak to them they’ll tell you that a Jotun named Grendel was behind the attacks!

Once you’ve investigated the scene fully, speak to Wulfhilda and tell her of your discoveries. When you speak to her, you’ll complete this chapter of The Legend of Beowulf. Completing this quest will earn you 5,100 EXP.
