This mystery can be found in the north of Hamtunscire, just south of Readingum Abbey. As you approach the location you’ll hear a Saxon bard, playing music for a group of Norsemen. Speak with the bard to begin the mystery, learning a bit about why he plays in the process.
Speak with the Hooded Norse Warrior and Fight the Bard
When the conversation with the bard ends, you’ll need to speak with the hooded Norse Warrior near the barrel of ale. He’ll challenge you to a drinking contest, which you should accept if you want to complete the mystery. Once you do, you’ll find that he’s an extremely fast drinker, but this won’t matter; after the first round, all the Norsemen around you will die, and you’ll be poisoned. At this point the bard will attack, and you’ll need to defeat him alone.
The fight with the bard isn’t particularly difficult, but you will find that he is relentless in his attacks at times. You can try to shoot both weak points on the bard’s left leg and right arm, but you may find it difficult as he is extremely quick and will dodge from side to side whenever you aim your bow at him. Try hitting the weak points after using a skill which slows down time, such as Brush with Death or Focus of the Nornir.
In addition to the bard’s basic spear attacks, you’ll find that he likes to combine spear attacks with flying kicks. If you don’t move out of the way and great some distance between yourself and the bard, he will be relentless in his attacks. Although not all of his attacks inflict significant damage, you can find your health depleted rather quickly after a series of quick blows, so just dodge or roll out of the way if you find yourself trapped in a flurry of them.
When the bard is dead, the mystery will complete.
