How to Get the Gold Medal

Trial of the Wolf Objectives

To earn the gold medal for the Trial of the Wolf at Wenlocan Outpost, you need to earn the following points for each objective, which amount to the perfect score of 1,000 points combined.

Objective Mastery Points
Indirect kills 720
Eliminate all the guards 280

At first glance, the objectives for the Trial of the Wolf at Wenlocan Outpost are pretty simple. However, when you consider that all of your kills must be achieved indirectly, things get a little more complicated. There are numerous ways to get indirect kills at the outpost, but the main thing you should be concerned with is never killing an enemy with a direct hit from an arrow.

How to Get Indirect Kills

Shoot Fire Pots

The first and most obvious way to secure indirect kills at Wenlocan Outpost is by shooting the fire pots which are scattered throughout the outpost in high concentrations. Most of the pots will be in close proximity to other pots, so you should be careful not to hit too many at once if there’s only one enemy beside a lot of them. Instead, you can wait for enemies to step closer to fire pots in groups of twos or threes, and only then shoot the fire pots to cause an explosion and kill the enemies indirectly from the impact or fire. The fire pots will most likely be your primary means of killing enemies indirectly here, since there are so many of them throughout the outpost.

Shoot Cargo Nets

If you’re running low on fire pots to shoot or there aren’t any located in the vicinity of an enemy or two, you can resort to shooting cargo nets, which will then crash down onto enemies below. If you can, you should wait until a number of enemies are beneath a specific net before you shoot the link to send it crashing down on them. However, there are enough fire pots and enough nets in the outpost to allow you to shoot a net wherever you see an enemy beneath one. You may sometimes find nets which are located above a cluster of fire pots, creating a good opportunity to kill multiple enemies in different indirect ways. Since there’s no timer for this trial, you can be patient and plan your attacks carefully.

Use Trial of the Wolf Special Ability: Ranged Fire Strike

If you’ve destroyed most of the fire pots and shot down most of the nets in the outpost, your only hope is to use the Ranged Fire Strike special ability. This is a less reliable way to kill enemies indirectly if you’re using it only for its ranged capabilities. If you’re lucky, you can hit an object or a patch of hay and set it on fire so that it spreads to a nearby enemy. However, a much more effective use of the ability is to get close to an enemy so that you’re within melee range. You can then activate the ability as you’re facing an enemy in order to create a blaze of fire in an arc in front of you. This will set the enemy on fire and kill them within seconds.

It should be noted that although you can get indirect kills by using the Ranged Fire Strike ability from a distance and aiming for the lower body of an enemy so that they burn out and don’t die from the initial hit, this can be a risky strategy due to the chance of critical hits killing an enemy instantly.

So long as you don’t kill any enemies with regular ranged attacks and you kill all enemies in indirect ways using the above methods, this trial should prove relatively easy. Keep moving throughout the outpost to avoid incoming ranged attacks, and don’t linger for too long near fire pots to ensure that you don’t succumb to an explosion.
