Reaver of the South

This quest begins once you have pledged to Suthsexe from the alliance map in your longhouse at Ravensthorpe. You’ll need to find and speak with Basim in Croindene, to prepare for the attack on Portcestre.

Speak with Basim in Croindene

Croindene is located just southeast of Lunden, as shown below. Once there, Basim can be found in the longhouse. Take some time here to speak with some of your old friends with whom you’ve formed alliances. When you approach Basim a cutscene will begin, during which you’ll meet Jarl Guthrum. Respond as you wish to his dialogue. By the end of it, Eivor will be tasked with killing three scouts.

Find and Kill the Scouts

Each of the three scouts can be found in the lands south of Croindene. Approach the objective markers on the map, and when you draw near be sure to use your raven to scout the general area where you can find them. The nearest scout can be found on a kill. As you approach the area, you’ll be attacked by numerous wolves. Kill them and then inspect the scout, who has already been killed by them.

From the first scout on the hill, continue south toward the Medeuuage River. You’ll find the scout at the Crawleah Dock on the other side of it, guarded by numerous soldiers. Be sure to kill the Gedriht here to loot a Nickel Ingot. The scout comes in the form of an Arbalist. They can inflict a lot of damage if you allow them to take a shot, so be sure to kill them as quickly as possible. You’ll need to confirm the kill for it to register before you move on.

The third scout west of Crawleah Dock, close to the northwestern entrance of Cicestre Abbey. You can ambush the guards he’s with relatively easily, either by shooting from the nearby wall or shooting the fire pot from the fields. Once they’re all dead, confirm the kill on the scout, who like the second is an Arbalist, and then meet with Basim in the woods south of Cicestre Abbey.

Speak to Basim and Defeat the Attackers

You’ll find Basim and Guthrum in the camp they’ve established in the woods, south of Cicestre Abbey. Approach the camp to begin a cutscene, during which you’ll have a few dialogue options with Guthrum. Whatever you say to Guthrum, the conversation will be interrupted by an attacking Saxon force. You’ll need to join others to defend the camp from them.

When the Saxons attack, you’ll need to defeat enough of them to fill the progress bar. Around a quarter of the way through, they’ll fall back slightly. Follow them and kill as many as you can. Among the Saxons you’ll encounter a number of elite units such as Goliaths, Skirmishers, Kinsmen, Yeomen, and Pikemen. When enough have been defeated, a cutscene will follow, after which you’ll need to fight Fulke’s Champion.

Defeat Fulke’s Champion

This fight isn’t quite as difficult as it may seem. The main thing you’ll need to be ready for is the combination of swift light attacks and slow heavy attacks. These could throw you off guard if you’re careful. Unfortunately there’s no indication of which the champion will execute before they do it, so we recommend dodging most attacks just to be sure. As he dual-wields large swords, they can be highly damaging if you get hit. The champion will rarely strike once without a follow up attack, so be ready to avoid consecutive strikes.

Fulke’s Champion has no healing abilities, so you don’t have to worry about interrupting those. If you need to heal yourself and have no remaining rations, you’ll find plenty of bushes around the circle. If you get the timing of the dodges right, you shouldn’t need to do this. Ultimately this is a fairly easy fight so long as you maintain the initiative and don’t allow the champion to dictate the flow with numerous swift strikes. Break his attacks with your own, and combine light attacks with heavy attacks to inflict the most damage. The champion has only slightly more health than regular elite units, so it won’t take too long to bring him down.

Kill or Spare Fulke’s Champion?

When the fight is over, you’ll need to decide whether to kill Fulke’s Champion now, or spare his life and ask him to deliver a message to Fulke. This won’t have any significant impact on the story, but it will mean that you’ll have to fight the champion again during a later quest.

Carry Brothir’s Body

After defeating Fulke’s Champion, you need to carry Brothir’s body back to the camp in the east. When you lay him down, a cutscene will follow. It doesn’t matter what you say here, as the outcome will be the same. After the scene the quest will complete, and you’ll have a chance to catch up with your allies.
